Project Overview
Each winter, one of the UK’s most iconic stately homes transforms its historic grounds into an immersive Christmas experience. Set within a renowned Peak District estate, the event features themed light installations, a winter trail, festive displays, artisan stalls, food and drink cabins and family-friendly attractions.
This highly anticipated seasonal event draws thousands of visitors each day from November through mid-December, and requires a stable, efficient and environmentally conscious temporary power system to support lighting, audio, catering, retail and guest facilities across the entire estate.
Each winter, one of the UK’s most iconic stately homes transforms its historic grounds into an immersive Christmas experience
Challenges
- The attraction operates entirely on temporary power to support lighting, heating, interactive installations, catering outlets and festive retail.
- Any loss of power could disrupt the visitor experience, create safety issues and impact the event’s smooth operation.
- Installation must be completed within strict time windows, taking into account sensitive heritage surroundings, limited access routes and ongoing event preparations.
- Fuel storage restrictions on the estate require a power solution that can actively reduce fuel usage and minimise emissions through intelligent load management.
Our Solution
Central Power Services has deployed a fully managed temporary power system designed around reliability, efficiency and environmental responsibility.
Smart Load-Sharing Generator Setup
To meet the diverse power demands of the attraction, we installed:
- 5 x 100 kVA diesel generators
- Each with integral bunded fuel tanks
- A synchronised distribution system for live load-sharing
This setup allows generators to automatically adjust output and switch off when demand is lower, helping reduce fuel consumption and carbon impact while maintaining complete reliability.
Careful Logistics and On-Site Coordination
Our engineering team completed installation during controlled access periods to avoid disruption to estate teams and early visitors. All generators, cabling and distribution boards were positioned discreetly to respect the heritage environment and maintain safe public access.
Ongoing Support and Fuel Management
Throughout the event, Central Power Services continues to provide:
- Overnight refuelling
- Scheduled maintenance
- 24/7 technical support
- Standby capacity if required
This ensures uninterrupted power availability throughout the full duration of the Christmas season.
Outcome
The event is currently running with a reliable and resilient temporary power infrastructure that supports every illuminated installation, catering outlet and visitor facility across the estate. The load-sharing generator configuration is delivering measurable reductions in fuel usage and emissions, while maintaining consistent power performance throughout peak visitor periods.
The event organisers have complete confidence in the system, enabling them to focus fully on delivering an exceptional festive experience for guests.
Working in Partnership
Close collaboration between Central Power Services, the estate management team and on-site contractors has been key to the success of this project. Together, we have established a well-planned, heritage-sensitive installation approach and a coordinated operating schedule that aligns with event activities and visitor flow.
Our responsive support and clear communication throughout the season continue to ensure a smooth, safe and efficient power supply for one of the UK's most recognisable festive attractions.
