Commitment to accessibility
Central Power Services (CPS) is committed to making our website usable and accessible for everyone, including people with disabilities. We strive to comply with the best practices and standards for web accessibility and to continuously improve the user experience of our website for all users.
Scope
This statement covers the web content and functionality at www.central-power.co.uk and its associated pages (e.g. blog, resources, contact pages). It does not cover third-party websites linked from our site.
Standards & guidelines
We aim to adhere to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, as much as reasonably possible. These guidelines help ensure that content is:
- Perceivable — information and UI components must be presented in ways that users can perceive
- Operable — navigation and interface components must be operable by all users
- Understandable — information and operation of the site must be understandable
- Robust — content must be robust enough to be interpreted reliably by a wide variety of user agents, including assistive technologies
Measures taken to improve accessibility
In order to meet these goals, we have taken or are working on the following measures:
Feature / Practice |
Description |
Semantic HTML and ARIA |
Use of proper HTML elements (headings, lists, landmarks) and ARIA roles / attributes where needed to assist screen reader users |
Keyboard navigation |
All interactive elements (menus, forms, links) are operable via keyboard (tab, arrow keys, enter, escape) |
Alt text for images |
All non-decorative images include alternative text (alt attributes) |
Colour contrast |
Text and background colour combinations are chosen to meet minimum contrast ratios (Level AA) |
Resizable text / zoom |
The site supports browser zoom (up to 200 %) without loss of content or functionality |
Responsive / fluid layout |
The site adapts to various screen sizes (desktop, tablet, mobile) |
Skip navigation / “Skip to content” links |
Where useful, skip links help bypass repetitive navigation |
Form labels & instructions |
Form controls include labels, and instructions or error messages are clear and descriptive |
Accessible tables & lists |
Proper markup for tables, lists, and other structured content |
Ongoing testing & auditing |
Regular reviews (manual and automated) using tools like browser accessibility checkers, screen readers, etc. |
Known limitations & issues
Despite our efforts, there may still be parts of the site that are not fully accessible. Some possible limitations:
- Some older PDF documents, Word documents or external files may not fully comply with accessibility guidelines
- Embedded third-party content (widgets, videos, iframes) may not always meet WCAG standards
- Complex interactive visuals or charts may pose challenges for screen reader users
We work to mitigate these issues over time. If you encounter a particular problem, please let us know (see “Feedback & contact” below), and we will aim to provide an accessible alternative or fix the issue.
